The F-22 Raptor represents the new type of fighter aircraft built for the US Air Force. It will eventually replace the F-15 Eagles that have been in operation since the late 1970s. The Raptor design uses the latest engine technologies to reach super-sonic speeds without afterburners. In addition, it will be equipped with highly sophisticated electronic weapons control equipment. The weapons are transported inside the fuselage to avoid radar detection and to improve the aerodynamic characteristics of the aircraft.
