In the late 1930s, the U.S. Army put forward the need for a lightweight, four-wheel-drive vehicle that could be used for reconnaissance purposes, and required domestic automakers to submit designs, but the response was only rare. It was not until the beginning of 1940 that two suitable design schemes emerged, one was the US Fine Solder Company and the other was the Wiley Company. Fine Welder Company is the main competitor, but the company is small in scale and limited in output. Therefore, the original plan of Fine Welder has to be handed over to major manufacturers such as Willie and Ford for further development. In July 1941, after Willie's MB model design was won, the mass production contract was handed over to Willie and Ford to be responsible for production. The GPW produced by the Ford plant is roughly the same as the MB produced by the Willy plant. The difference lies in the grille in front of the front radiator and other details. This vehicle was later named "Jeep" by Allied soldiers. They think that the agile performance of this car is very similar to the protagonists in the well-known "Jeep Eugene" and "Popeye" cartoons. Ford's GPW produced 280,000 units during WW II, all of which were distributed to the US and British military units. In addition, GPW also supplied the Soviet Union and other allied countries, and was exported to the world after the war. Jeep is a four-wheel drive vehicle with off-road functions and high reliability. It can carry a weight of 1/4 ton and reach a speed of 105 kilometers per hour. This vehicle was equipped with heavy machine guns by the British Army's Special Air Service Regiment (SAS) and the Long Range Desert Combat Force (LRDG) to participate in the 1942-43 North Africa campaign.
