SdKfz 221 was developed in 1934 as a light wheeled reconnaissance armored vehicle to replace the old Sdkfz 13 reconnaissance armored vehicle. The basic design is a German standard four-wheel heavy passenger vehicle chassis and Horch engine with a turret and armor in the main body. Since the main weapon on the vehicle is only one MG34 heavy machine gun, the commander will bring a 7.92mm PzB39 anti-armor rifle to enhance the anti-armor capability. The SdKfz 221 reconnaissance armored vehicle was assigned to the reconnaissance detachments of the armored and motorized infantry divisions. The SdKfz 221 reconnaissance armored vehicle was active on the Polish and French fronts at the beginning of the war.
