In 1935-1936, Nazi Germany began to develop a U-IX series of large submarines capable of ocean-going operations and patrol missions. The prerequisite for long-range combat must be large, which means that the smaller U-VII series is not as ideal in this respect, so the U-IX series was created. There are several variants of the U-IX series, with slight differences in appearance. The U-IXC is designed to have a larger fuel storage capacity than other U-IX systems that can store an additional 43 tons of fuel, but one of the periscopes has been removed. The patrol-type U-IXC produced a total of 35 ships and the mine-laying type produced a total of 19 ships. This submarine has a length of 76.8 meters and a full displacement of 1,408 tons. U-IXC can cruise 46,000 Km at a speed of 10 nautical miles on the surface, and its maximum speed on the surface is 18 nautical miles or 7.5 nautical miles for diving. There are a total of six torpedo launching tubes in the whole boat, and it is designed as front 4 and rear 2, which can launch 22 torpedoes and the mine-type U-IXC can carry 44 mines. The defensive weapons are 105mm guns and anti-aircraft cannons on the command tower. The U-511 boat of the U-IXC type was provided to Japan for use in September 1943, and the number was changed to RO 500. The boat surrendered to the U.S. forces in 1945, but was sunk several months later.
