In the early days of WW II, many of the Soviet Red Army's heavy artillery were pulled by horses, which caused its lack of mobility and was extremely vulnerable to enemy attacks. The KV-2 assault gun was built according to this need, but its performance was very disappointing. The main problem was its oversized and overweight gun. Therefore, the authorities decided to use the KV-1S chassis to develop a new self-propelled gun to replace the KV-2. The main design requirement was to mount the 152mm ML-20S howitzer on a low body. Several different designs were submitted. In February 1943, the design named KV-14 was accepted by the authorities and further developed into the SU-152 self-propelled gun. This self-propelled gun weighs about 45.5 tons, it can reach a high speed of 43 kilometers per hour, the front armor is 75 mm thick, and the power is provided by a 600bhp V-2K diesel engine. This car was produced at the Chelyabinskiy Kirovskiy factory until it was replaced by ISU-152 in December 1943. Although its design is an assault gun, it has won the title of "Tiger Killer" because the huge power of 152mm ammunition can blast off the turret of a German tank!
